In an impressive display of skill and determination, Artsakh native Karen Sargsyan won the gold medal in the men’s 58 kg sport sambo category at the recent championships. Sargsyan’s path to victory was marked by a series of strong performances, culminating in a hard-fought final against Georgia’s Vakhtangi Chidrashvili.
Sargsyan’s journey to the gold saw him go undefeated, finishing with a perfect 3-0 record in the tournament. He began his campaign with a narrow 3-2 victory over Vadim Dedov in the quarterfinals, showcasing his tactical prowess and resilience. In the semifinals, he further demonstrated his dominance by defeating Borislav Yanakov with a commanding score of 3-0.
The final match was closely contested, with Sargsyan emerging victorious against Chidrashvili, securing the gold medal for Armenia. Alongside Sargsyan, Sahib Babayev of Azerbaijan and Vadim Dedov earned bronze medals, marking a competitive event in the world of sambo.
