Karen Sargsyan, a prominent figure in Armenian sambo, made headlines this week by securing the gold medal in the men’s 58 kg sport sambo category at the 2026 European Sambo Championships. His remarkable journey to the top included an unbeaten streak, culminating in a hard-fought victory against Georgia’s Vakhtangi Chidrashvili, winning the gold medal match 2-1.
Sargsyan’s path to victory began with a close 3-2 win over Vadim Dedov in the quarterfinals, followed by a dominant 3-0 shutout against Borislav Yanakov in the semifinals. These performances not only underscored his technical prowess but also solidified his status as a leading athlete in the sport.
