Armenian Women’s National Football Team Plays In First World Cup Qualifier In 11 Years
For the first time in nearly a decade, the Armenian women’s national football team played in a meaningful match.
The results weren’t there quite yet as the Armenians fell to Norway in Oslo, 10-0, in the first match of the 2023 Women’s World Cup qualification tournament, but the fact that Armenia is present in the qualifiers shows that the Football Federation of Armenia is well organized and ready to compete.
Armenia did not enter in the qualification tournaments in 2015 and 2019. They competed in the 2011 Women’s World Cup qualification tournament finishing 0-8-0 with a -41 goal differential. After that they participated in the 2013 Women’s Euro Cup qualification tournament and finished 0-8 with a -42 goal differential before taking a eight year hiatus from competitive tournaments.
Armenia will return to action on Tuesday when they take on Poland at Hanrapetakan Stadium in Yerevan.
