Olympic Men’s Wrestling: Medal Favorite Vazgen Tevanyan Suffers Disappointing Early Exit
Vazgen Tevanyan was hoping to leave Tokyo with a medal, instead he leaves with his head down following a disappointing early exit.
Tevanyan lost to Gadzhimurad Rashidov of the Russian Olympic Committee by a score of 6-0 in the Round of 16 of the 65kg freestyle wrestling tournament.
The Armenian had high hopes in the Olympics after winning golds in the 2021 European Olympic Qualification Tournament and the 2020 Individual World Cup. Instead, he heads home in disappointing fashion along with teammate Arsen Harutyunyan, who also had his Olympic run end abruptly following an early Round of 16 defeat in the 57kg tournament.
