Olympic Men’s Tennis: Karen Khachanov Advances To Final Representing Russian Olympic Committee
Karen Khachanov is assured of a medal and will have a shot at gold in the men’s singles tennis final.
The Russian-born Armenian, representing the Russian Olympic Committee, defeated Pablo Carreño Busta of Spain in straight sets (6-3, 6-3) in the semifinals and the good news is that he won’t have to face world No. 1 Novak Djokovic in the gold medal match. The Serbian star, who was seeking a Golden Slam (four Grand Slam championships and a gold medal in the same year), lost to Germany’s Alexander Zverev in the semifinals
Khachanov, who had only got as far as the quarterfinals in any Grand Slam event, is assured of a medal and will have his hands full against Zverev, who is the world No. 4. The championship match is set to take place on August 1st at 2:00 AM ET.
