USA Dominates Paraguay 4-1 in World Cup Opener

The United States launched its 2026 World Cup campaign with a commanding 4-1 victory over Paraguay at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, marking a strong start in Group D as they aim for a deep tournament run.

In a thrilling match on Friday, the United States showcased its strength as they overwhelmed Paraguay, taking an early lead with a seventh-minute own goal from Paraguay’s Damián Bobadilla. The U.S. attack, spearheaded by forwards Christian Pulisic and Weston McKennie, continued to apply pressure throughout the first half.

Folarin Balogun emerged as a key player, netting two goals before halftime, which solidified the U.S. lead at 3-0. Paraguay managed to score in the 73rd minute through Maurício, but the U.S. responded decisively. Giovanni Reyna sealed the game with a goal in the eighth minute of stoppage time, confirming a confident start for the hosts.

With this victory, the United States takes the top spot in Group D and will next face Australia on June 19. Meanwhile, Paraguay will seek to recover from this setback against Turkey on the same day.
