Armenian Weightlifters Shine at 2026 European Championships in Batumi
At the 2026 European Weightlifting Championships held in Batumi, Armenian weightlifter Gevorg Serobian clinched gold in the 79 kg category while setting a new European record for the snatch.
Gevorg Serobian, competing as an Individual Neutral Athlete, put on an impressive display at the championships, lifting a total of 341 kg, which secured him the top podium spot. His remarkable performance included a record-setting lift of 161 kg in the snatch, highlighting his exceptional skill and determination.
In a strong showing for Armenia, fellow weightlifter Martin Poghosyan also competed in the 79 kg category, earning a bronze medal with a total lift of 338 kg. Poghosyan’s achievement came behind Serobian and Albanian weightlifter Briken Calja, who finished in silver position.
Overall, the Armenian team has now accumulated four medals at the European Weightlifting Championships, underscoring the nation’s growing prowess in the sport as athletes continue to excel on this competitive stage.
