Russian Skater to Perform Armenian Composition at Winter Olympics
Petr Gummenik, a Russian figure skater, will showcase his talent by performing to the Armenian composition ‘Waltz 1805’ during the men’s short program at the Winter Olympics in Milan, amidst a wave of artistic expression featuring Armenian music.
The Winter Olympics are set to highlight the rich cultural heritage of Armenia through the performances of its artists. Russian skater Petr Gummenik will skate to ‘Waltz 1805’, composed by Edgar Hakobyan, during his short program. This selection comes after Gummenik had to change his initial song choice due to copyright issues, emphasizing the importance of adhering to regulations while promoting cultural art.
In addition to Gummenik, the artistic presence of Armenian music will be further celebrated by pair skaters Karina Akopova and Nikita Rakhmanin, who will perform to ‘Artsakh’ by Ara Gevorgyan. Their performances underline the increasing recognition of Armenian contributions to the world of classical and contemporary music, demonstrating an enriching layer to the Winter Olympic Games.
