UNLV Honors Jerry and Lois Tarkanian with Court Name Change

In a heartfelt tribute, the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) honored the legacies of Jerry and Lois Tarkanian by renaming their basketball court to Jerry and Lois Tarkanian Court during the season opener against UT Martin.

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas, has made a significant change to pay homage to two influential figures in its history. In their season opener against UT Martin on Tuesday, the university unveiled the newly renamed Jerry and Lois Tarkanian Court, a move that celebrates not just the iconic coach’s contributions but also those of his late wife, Lois Tarkanian.

Jerry Tarkanian is celebrated for his extraordinary 19-year tenure as head coach of the UNLV men’s basketball team from 1973 to 1992. Under his leadership, the team achieved remarkable success, including four Final Four appearances and a national championship in 1990. His coaching legacy has left an indelible mark on the university’s athletic program.

Lois Tarkanian, recognized for her advocacy in public education, served on the Nevada System of Higher Education Board of Regents and the Las Vegas City Council. The court’s renaming not only honors Jerry’s athletic legacy but also highlights Lois’s commitment to education in the state, ensuring that both their contributions are remembered and respected.
