Varazdat Lalayan Claims Gold at World Weightlifting Championships in Norway
Armenian weightlifter Varazdat Lalayan has secured his place as a world champion once again, dominating the men’s over 110 kg category at the World Weightlifting Championships held in Norway, lifting a remarkable total of 461 kg.
Lalayan’s impressive performance included lifts of 211 kg in the snatch and 250 kg in the clean and jerk, earning him the coveted overall gold medal. In addition to the overall title, Lalayan also clinched two small gold medals for his individual lifts, showcasing his exceptional strength and technique on the world stage.
In a notable display of competition, Gor Minasyan, representing Bahrain, finished in second place, further highlighting the strong presence of Armenian athletes in the championship.
This victory marks Lalayan’s second World Championship title, contributing significantly to Armenia’s medal tally at this year’s event, with one overall gold and a total of four smaller medals. Lalayan continues to build on his legacy in the sport, solidifying his position as one of the top weightlifters in the world.
