Armenia Achieves Historic Second Place at U20 World Greco-Roman Wrestling Championships
Armenia’s U20 wrestling team made history by securing second place at the World Greco-Roman Wrestling Championships held in Bulgaria, marking their best performance in the event’s history with four medals.
The U20 World Greco-Roman Wrestling Championships in Bulgaria concluded with Team Armenia finishing in a remarkable second place, trailing only behind Iran. With a total of 98 points, Armenia achieved its highest-ever finish at the event, a significant improvement from their fifth place showing at the European Championships just a month prior.
Armenia’s medal tally included one gold, two silver, and one bronze, showcasing the nation’s growing prowess in the sport. Gaspar Terteryan stood out with a gold medal in the competitive 72kg category, while Yurik Mkhitaryan, Alex Margaryan, and Erik Ter-Matevosyan contributed to the medal haul with their impressive performances.
This strong showing not only marked a triumphant return for Armenia on the world stage but also positioned them ahead of rival Azerbaijan, further solidifying their place in Greco-Roman wrestling.
