Enes Kanter Claims He Is Receiving Death Threats After Acknowledging Armenian Genocide

Minutes after Enes Kanter stood in solidarity with Armenians and acknowledged the Armenian Genocide, the Turkish NBA star began receiving death threats.

Kanter posted on his Instagram story about the malicious messages saying, “The amount of death threats I just got in the last 2 hours is crazy for telling the truth. I promised myself many years ago to stand up for human rights for all people. I’m for truth, no matter who tells it. I’m for FREEDOM, no matter who it is for or against. I AM NOT SCARED !!!”

Kanter has long been critical of Recep Erdogan and his regime in Turkey and has received backlash from Erdogan and many other Turkish nationalists for his comments. That said, the Boston Celtics center hadn’t acknowledged the Armenian Genocide until Sunday afternoon.

United States President Joe Biden became the first standing president to recognize the Armenian Genocide on April 24 this year and his statement drew the ire of Erdogan and Turkey, who is a NATO ally with the United States.
