Armenian Weightlifters Shine at 2026 European Championships in Batumi

In a remarkable display of strength and skill, Armenian weightlifters excelled at the 2026 European Weightlifting Championships in Batumi, capturing eight medals across various divisions.

The Armenian team showcased their prowess by securing three gold medals at the championships. Varazdat Lalayan dominated the competition in the +110 kg division, while Garik Karapetyan triumphed in the 110 kg category. Emma Poghosyan also shone brightly, taking gold in the women’s 86 kg division, affirming Armenia’s status as a formidable force in European weightlifting.

In addition to the golds, Armenia’s athletes earned four silver medals, contributed by Aleksandra Grigoryan, Garnik Cholakyan, Gor Sahakyan, and Ara Aghanyan, demonstrating a deep talent pool within the team. Martin Poghosyan rounded out the medal tally with a bronze in the 79 kg division, highlighting the overall strength of the Armenian delegation at the event.

This year’s championships reflect Armenia’s ongoing commitment to excellence in weightlifting, reinforcing its reputation as one of Europe’s leading nations in the sport.
