Armenia Dominates 2026 European Weightlifting Championships in Batumi

Armenia showcased its strength at the 2026 European Weightlifting Championships, securing a remarkable eight medals, including three golds, and dominating the medal tally in Batumi.

The 2026 European Weightlifting Championships concluded with an impressive performance by Armenia, which finished with eight medals overall—three gold, four silver, and one bronze—leading all participating nations in gold medals. When factoring in smaller medals from the snatch and clean and jerk events, Armenia’s total medal count surged to 24, comprising nine gold, eight silver, and seven bronze medals.

The standout performances came from Armenian lifters Emma Poghosyan, Garik Karapetyan, and Varazdat Lalayan, each contributing to the country’s gold medal tally. This achievement not only underscores Armenia’s prowess in weightlifting but also emphasizes the nation’s ability to excel in sports on the European stage despite a population of just under three million.
