Armenian Star Garik Karapetyan Wins Gold at 2026 European Weightlifting Championships
Garik Karapetyan of Armenia demonstrated his dominance in weightlifting by securing gold in the men’s 110 kg division at the 2026 European Weightlifting Championships held in Batumi, lifting an impressive total of 415 kg.
At the championship, Karapetyan achieved remarkable lifts, posting 189 kg in the snatch and 226 kg in the clean and jerk. His performance enabled him to edge out Romania’s Luis Lauret by a mere kilogram for the overall title.
This victory marks Karapetyan’s third senior European title, having previously triumphed in 2023 and 2025. In addition to his overall gold medal, he also secured small gold in the clean and jerk and a small bronze in the snatch. Karapetyan has established himself as one of the top competitors in the field, boasting a record of three Junior World Championships and a fourth-place finish at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Another notable competitor from Armenia, Simon Martirosyan, finished in sixth place with a total lift of 398 kg, showcasing the strength of Armenian weightlifting on the European stage.
