Emma Poghosyan Shines at 2026 European Weightlifting Championships

Armenia’s 19-year-old weightlifting sensation Emma Poghosyan captured the spotlight at the 2026 European Weightlifting Championships, clinching gold in the women’s 86 kg division with a remarkable total lift of 248 kg.

Poghosyan exhibited exceptional performance, completing a perfect 6-for-6 in her lifts. She registered an impressive 107 kg in the snatch category and lifted 141 kg in the clean and jerk, which not only secured her the overall gold medal but also set a new European junior record in the clean and jerk. Her achievements included small gold for the clean and jerk and a small bronze for the snatch, emphasizing her dominance in the competition.

Competing alongside Poghosyan, fellow Armenian Liana Gyurjyan also showcased her talent, finishing in fifth place overall with a total of 236 kg. Gyurjyan earned a small silver medal in the clean and jerk, further highlighting Armenia’s strong presence in the championship held in Batumi. This event marks another significant achievement for Armenia in the world of weightlifting, showcasing the country’s rising prominence in the sport.
