Armenia Shines at 2026 European Weightlifting Championships with 18 Medals

As the 2026 European Weightlifting Championships progress in Batumi, Armenia has claimed a remarkable position, securing second place in the medal standings with a total of 18 medals, trailing only behind Individual Neutral Athletes.

After six days of competition, Armenian weightlifters have showcased their prowess, bringing home four gold, eight silver, and six bronze medals. This impressive tally reflects not just overall podium finishes but also small medals earned in separate categories, including the snatch and clean and jerk.

Standout athletes such as Emma Poghosyan, who clinched gold, and silver medalists Gor Sahakyan, Garnik Cholakyan, and Ara Aghanyan have significantly contributed to Armenia’s success. In addition, Martin Poghosyan added a bronze to the medal count, exemplifying a strong week for Armenian weightlifting across various weight classes.

Notably, Armenia’s remarkable performance in the championship is especially notable considering its population of less than 3 million. This achievement highlights the country’s dedication to the sport and its rising prominence in the field of weightlifting.
