Street Near Hrazdan Stadium to Be Named After Football Legend Nikita Simonyan

The Council of Elders of Yerevan has decided to rename a street adjacent to Hrazdan Stadium in honor of Nikita Simonyan, one of Armenia’s most celebrated footballers and coaches.

Nikita Simonyan, who passed away on November 23, 2025, at the age of 99, made significant contributions to the world of football. An Olympic champion with the Soviet Union in 1956, Simonyan’s prowess on the field made him a legendary figure in Soviet football history.

Throughout his career, he secured numerous trophies in the Soviet league and is recognized as one of the league’s top scorers. His influence on the sport extended beyond his playing days, as he achieved coaching success with Yerevan’s Ararat football club, leading the team to a championship title in 1973.

The decision to rename a street in his honor comes as a tribute to his legacy and lasting impact on Armenian football culture, ensuring that future generations will remember his contributions to the sport.
