Armenia HC Has Mixed Results In Group Stage Of Amerigol Latam Cup

Armenia HC finished pool play Friday at the Amerigol Latam Cup in Florida with mixed results.

The Division I squad won its final match against Lebanon, 9-6, in its inaugural appearance in the highest level, but finished in third place in the group due to losses to Cuba and Greece.

The Division II squad, however, rolled through the competition in its quest to repeat as champions. The team defeated Colombia, Argentina and Mexico by a combined score of 27-8 to advance to the semifinals.

The Amerigol Latam Cup is an NHL-sponsored tournament and calls itself the “premier international ice hockey tournament designed to break barriers and unite non-traditional hockey markets in a thrilling display of skill, passion, and camaraderie.”

Armenia has used appearances at the Latam Cup and at the Dream Nations Cup to relaunch the Armenian national ice hockey team, which has not played a game since 2006 and has been inactive or suspended since 2010.

The national team is officially scheduled to return to IIHF play in the 2025 World Championships (Div. IV).
