Detroit Pistons assistant Rex Kalamian tells ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski he has agreed to become the new head coach of the Armenian national basketball team.
Kalamian recently led the Pistons to a victory over the Utah Jazz serving as acting head coach when Pistons head coach Dwane Casey was out due to Covid protocols.
The Armenian national basketball team has not competed since the Eurobasket 2022 qualifiers in 2018. After advancing to the second round of qualification, Armenia withdrew from the tournament due to financial constraints. Armenia also withdrew from the 2021 FIBA European Championship for Small Countries, a tournament which they won in 2016.
