Rex Kalamian Wins First NBA Game As Head Coach With Pistons
Up until Monday, Detroit Pistons assistant coach Rex Kalamian had served as an NBA assistant for 28 years and never had a chance to be a head coach.
That all changed when Pistons head coach Dwane Casey went into COVID protocols earlier this week and Kalamian was called on to be the acting head coach. Kalamian, who is in his first season with the Pistons, coached his squad to a stunning comeback victory over the powerhouse Utah Jazz in Detroit.
The Pistons trailed by 22 in the first half before coming back to win 126-116. While the win officially goes to Casey in the record books, Pistons players understood the magnitude of the situation for Kalamian and doused him with water bottles and Gatorade when he entered the locker room to celebrate his first win.
