Hovhannes Bachkov Dominates Italian, Advances To Quarterfinals At World Boxing Championships
Olympic bronze medalist Hovhannes Bachkov keeps dominating on the world stage.
The Armenian defeated Italy’s Gianluigi Malanga by split decision (3-2) on Monday to advance to the quarterfinals in the light welterweight division of the 2021 AIBA World Boxing Championshpis.
The final score was not indicative of Bachkov’s dominance during the bout. Two of the five judges awarded Malanga the victor, even though Bachkov dominated the bout.
Bachkov will now fight Somchay Wongsuwan on Tuesday in the quarterfinals.
Bachkov was the lone Armenian victor on Monday. In the featherweight division, Artur Bazeyan succumbed to Cuba’s Osvel Caballero in the third round. Also in the flyweight division, Artur Hovhannisyan lost to Roscoe Hill of the USA in the third round.
