Olympic Men’s Boxing: Arman Darchinyan Grinds Out Round Of 16 Win, Advances To Middleweight Quarterfinals

Arman Darchinyan is one step closer to Olympic glory.

The Armenian middleweight from Vanadzor defeated Slovakian boxer Andrej Csemez via unanimous decision in the Round of 16 of the middleweight bracket to advance to the quarterfinals.

Darchinyan struggled out of the gate as four of the five judges awarded the first round to Csemez. However, Darchinyan came out strong in the second and third rounds as every single judge gave both frames to the Armenian. In the end, every judge had Darchinyan as the winner of the bout.

Darchinyan, who is the nephew of boxing great Vic Darchinyan, will now fight in the quarterfinals on August 1st.
