Armenia has finished tied for fourth place in the Greco-Roman medal standings at the 2026 World Wrestling Championships held in Astana, Kazakhstan, securing one gold and one bronze medal. This impressive performance highlights the nation’s strength in wrestling on the world stage.

Karen Aslanyan was the standout performer, clinching the world title in the 63 kg category with a victory over Azerbaijan’s Nihat Mammadli, winning the match 8-4. Additionally, Gevorg Tadevosyan added to Armenia’s medal tally, earning bronze in the 87 kg weight class by defeating Ukraine’s Yaroslav Filchakov 4-1.

Leading the medal table was Iran, which achieved an impressive haul of four golds, three silvers, and two bronzes. Notably, Armenia and Bulgaria finished with identical medal counts, but due to the gold-first ranking system, they shared the fourth position.

Looking ahead, the men’s freestyle competitions are set to commence today, October 29, with the opening matches in the 65 kg and 97 kg divisions. The events will continue through November 1, as Armenia seeks to add more medals to its championship total during this prestigious tournament.
