Armenian wrestler Samvel Terteryan finished fifth in the 77 kg Greco-Roman category at the U23 World Championships, narrowly missing out on a medal after a tough bronze match against Georgia’s Anri Putkaradze.

Samvel Terteryan, representing Armenia, concluded his campaign at the U23 World Championships by finishing fifth in the 77 kg Greco-Roman wrestling category. The tournament, held at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, saw Terteryan face off against Georgia’s Anri Putkaradze in the bronze medal match on Wednesday.

Terteryan had a strong start to the tournament, achieving three consecutive victories. He first defeated Russia’s Imran Aliev in a closely contested match, winning 2-1. Following that, he faced Uzbekistan’s Abdullo Aliev, where he advanced on criteria after a 1-1 tie. His third match showcased his dominance as he defeated Poland’s Hubert Sidoruk with a decisive 9-0 victory, showcasing his technical superiority.

However, Terteryan’s journey took a turn when he faced Hungary’s Levente Levai in the semifinals, where he suffered a 5-1 defeat. This loss meant he had to compete in the bronze medal match, but despite his efforts, he ended up just one win short of securing a medal, finishing fifth overall in the championship.
