Armenia’s Erik Ter-Matevosyan edged Georgia’s Arman Mkrtchyan 3-3 on criteria in Bratislava to win bronze in the 97 kg Greco-Roman division at the U20 World Wrestling Championships.

The all-Armenian bronze-medal bout pitted Ter-Matevosyan against Mkrtchyan, an Armenian wrestler who competes for Georgia but lives and trains in Armenia. The contest ended level at 3-3, and Ter-Matevosyan was awarded the victory on criteria after scoring the final point of the match.

The result gives Ter-Matevosyan a second consecutive U20 world bronze medal, confirming his place among the leading junior heavyweights in Greco-Roman wrestling.

It also lifted Armenia’s total at the championships to four medals: one gold, one silver and two bronze, a haul spread across the tournament’s weight classes and a solid return for the national junior programme in Bratislava.
