Armenia’s Women’s Tennis Team Celebrates Historic Promotion to Billie Jean King Cup Group II
In a remarkable achievement, Armenia’s women’s tennis team has secured promotion to the Billie Jean King Cup Europe/Africa Group II for the first time since 2009, following a decisive 2-0 victory over Estonia in the Group III promotion playoff held in San Marino.
The Armenian women’s tennis squad completed an impressive week, finishing the tournament unbeaten. The team dominated in their group matches, achieving clean sweeps against Azerbaijan, Albania, and Montenegro, each with a score of 3-0, before clinching their promotion with the win over Estonia in the playoff. Throughout the tournament, Armenia showcased their talent by winning all 11 individual matches.
Leading the team were Ani Amiraghyan and Elina Avanesyan, who excelled in singles matches. In doubles, Maria Azizyan and Alina Soghomonyan contributed significantly to maintaining the team’s flawless record. The inclusion of Avanesyan, who made her debut for the national team, strengthened Armenia’s lineup, enabling the squad to deliver one of their most impressive performances in the Billie Jean King Cup to date. This promotion marks a significant milestone for Armenian tennis, highlighting the country’s growing prowess in the sport.
