Armenian tennis sensation Elina Avanesyan continued her impressive performance at the Makarska Open, securing a spot in the semifinals after a decisive victory over Barbora Palicova in the quarterfinals of the WTA 125 event held in Croatia.
Avanesyan showcased her skills with a solid 6-0, 3-6, 6-1 win against Palicova, marking her third consecutive victory in the tournament. The young athlete entered the main draw as a qualifier and has demonstrated remarkable resilience and determination throughout her matches. In her opening round, Avanesyan battled against Tamara Zidansek, clinching the match with a score of 7-5, 4-6, 6-3. She then faced No. 6 seed Dominika Salkova in the Round of 16, managing to rally back from a set down to win 3-6, 7-6(5), 6-3.
This semifinal appearance is significant for Avanesyan, as it is her first since the 2025 Mérida Open, where she made history as the first Armenian player to reach a WTA 500 semifinal. With her current form, she is set to face the fifth seed, Darja Semenistaja, for a chance to compete in the Makarska final.
