Armenia Shines at 2026 Junior World Weightlifting Championships
Armenia’s junior weightlifting team achieved remarkable success at the 2026 Junior World Weightlifting Championships held in Egypt, securing first place among European nations and fifth overall worldwide, showcasing their exceptional talent against larger competitors.
In a stunning display of athletic prowess, Armenia’s junior weightlifters concluded the 2026 Junior World Weightlifting Championships with impressive results, finishing first among European countries and fifth overall in the global standings. The team brought home a total of nine medals: three gold, two silver, and four bronze.
This achievement is particularly noteworthy given the competition faced from larger nations such as China, Iran, Venezuela, and host nation Egypt, who dominated the medal table. Armenia’s performance underscores the nation’s growing prominence in the world of competitive weightlifting, especially at the junior level.
The medalists include Anna Amroyan, who earned both a Big Gold in the 77 kg category and a Small Gold in the clean and jerk. Narek Mkrtchyan followed closely with a Big Silver in the 79 kg category and a Small Bronze in clean and jerk. Other notable medalists include Emma Poghosyan, Narek Grigoryan, Valerik Movsisyan, and Hovhannes Hovhannisyan, all contributing to Armenia’s medal tally and demonstrating the potential of the country’s next generation of athletes.
