Artur Aleksanyan Posts Heartfelt And Thankful Message After Winning Olympic Silver

Artur Aleksanyan’s quest for his second career Olympic gold medal was cut short after losing to the ROC’s Musa Evloev in the gold medal match of the Greco-Roman wrestling 97kg tournament.

Aleksanyan battled through injury and (what he claims) controversy in the match and the Armenian refused to wear the silver medal around his neck on the podium during the medal ceremony.

On Wednesday, the 2016 Olympic gold medalist and 2012 bronze medalist took to Instagram to post a heartfelt message in Armenian to thank his fans.

“There’s a lot to say, but not now,” Aleksanyan wrote in Armenian. “We have what we have. With or without injury, I am always ready to fight for my COUNTRY. Thank you for the congratulations. I felt your support every second.”

Despite the loss, Aleksanyan became the first Olympian representing Armenia to have a gold, silver and bronze medals. His three Olympic medals are more than any Armenian athlete ever.
