Olympic Boxing: Hovhannes Bachkov Takes Care Of Business To Advance To Lightweight Semifinals

It seemed like it was a mismatch from the beginning.

Hovhannes Bachkov dominated Uzbekistan’s Elnur Abduraimov via unanimous decision in the lightweight quarterfinals to advance to the semifinals for a shot to advance to the gold medal match.

Bachkov delivered a nonstop barrage of punches to Abduraimov throughout the entire match. All five judges deemed Bachkov the winner of each round.

The 28-year-old Gyumri native has now won three straight bouts, including an exciting 4-1 victory over Azerbaijani fighter Javid Chalabiyev in the Round of 16.

The Armenian’s next challenge will be a tough one as he gets set to fight Keyshawn Davis of the United States in the semifinals on August 6. Davis had a highlight reel knockout victory in the Round of 16 over France’s Sofiane Oumiha. Davis and Bachkov fought in the 2019 World Championships and Davis was victorious in that fight via split decision in the semifinals.
