Olympic Greco-Roman Wrestling: Karapet Chalyan’s Golden Run Halted Following Semifinal Loss
Gold will no longer be in the cards for Karapet Chalyan.
The Armenian Greco-Roman wrestler lost to Akhzol Makhmudov of Kyrgyzstan, 6-2, in the semifinal match of the 77-kg bracket. Chalyan’s shot at a gold is over, but he will still have a chance to win a bronze medal on Tuesday.
Chalyan delivered back-to-back wins to start the 77-kg tournament with victories over Jalgasbay Berdimuratov of Uzbekstian (5-0) and Aleksandr Chekhirkin of the Russian Olympic Committee (2-1).
