Olympic Greco-Roman Wrestling: Karapet Chalyan’s Back-To-Back Wins Propel Armenian To 77-kg Semifinals

Karapet Chalyan took major steps towards securing an Olympic medal Monday afternoon in Tokyo.

The Armenian Greco-Roman wrestler defeated Jalgasbay Berdimuratov of Uzbekistan, 5-0, in the Round of 16 and Aleksandr Chekhirkin of the Russian Olympic Committee, 2-1, in the quarterfinals to advance to the semifinals of the 77-kg bracket.

The semifinals will take place later on Monday night and Chalyan will take on Akhzol Makhmudov of Kyrgyzstan for a chance to compete in the gold medal match on Tuesday.
