Olympic Men’s Gymnastics: Artur Davtyan leads Vault Apparatus Following Qualifying Round

Artur Davtyan has vaulted into first place in the Olympics — no pun intended.

The Armenian gymnast had a score of 14.866 in the vault apparatus qualification event on Saturday in Tokyo. This score was tied for first along with Jeahwan Shin of South Korea.

Davtyan will now compete in the vault final, which is scheduled to take place on August 2nd. He is seeking to become the first gymnast to medal for Armenia.

The 28-year-old from Yerevan has a history of success in the vault, winning gold at the 2019 European Games, silver at the 2016 European Championships and bronze at the 2013 European Championships.

Davtyan won gold in the pommel horse at the 2021 European Championships, but he scored a 14.566 (13th place) in the qualification round of the Olympics and did not qualify for the final.
